Context & Purpose
Intermodal transport is an important growth area for Hansen Istanbul and supports our ambition to strengthen our position as an integrated end-to-end transport solutions provider. The establishment of a dedicated Intermodal Department in Istanbul is intended to create a strong platform for sustainable commercial growth, reliable operations and closer cooperation across our international network.
We are looking for an experienced intermodal professional to establish, develop and lead the Intermodal Department from the ground up. The role combines commercial growth and operational leadership, including developing intermodal strategy, building a reliable vendor network, creating competitive transport solutions, establishing efficient processes and developing the team as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial & Business Development
- Define and execute the intermodal business development plan for Türkiye.
- Identify and develop new customers, trade lanes and business opportunities.
- Develop existing customer relationships and cooperate with other offices on new opportunities.
- Prepare competitive quotations and negotiate rates and commercial conditions with carriers and service providers.
- Monitor market trends, capacity and schedules to identify new commercial opportunities.
Department Set-up & Operations
- Build the Intermodal Department from the ground up, including its processes, roles and operating routines.
- Establish and manage the end-to-end process from quotation and booking through execution, documentation and invoicing support.
- Develop intermodal solutions combining road, rail, short-sea and ocean transport where appropriate.
- Coordinate pre-carriage, main transport and on-carriage activities.
- Ensure reliable daily operations, proactive shipment monitoring and effective problem resolution.
Vendor & Network Development
- Build and maintain a strong network of trucking companies, rail operators, shipping lines, terminals, agents and other service providers.
- Select and manage vendors based on cost, capacity, reliability, service quality and operational performance.
- Develop long-term supplier relationships and cooperate closely with other offices and agents.
Business & Compliance Management
- Monitor the commercial performance and profitability of the Intermodal Department.
- Support cost control, commercial follow-up and accurate invoicing.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory and company requirements, including ESG and Code of Conduct requirements.
People & Team Leadership
- Build and lead the local Intermodal team as the business grows.
- Set clear responsibilities, objectives and performance expectations.
- Promote a culture of customer focus, ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile:
- Proven experience in intermodal, multimodal, inland transport or freight forwarding, preferably with direct intermodal experience.
- Strong knowledge of road, rail, short-sea and combined transport solutions.
- Good knowledge of the Turkish logistics market and preferably an established industry network.
- Commercial experience in business development, rate procurement, quotations and supplier negotiations.
- Ability to build and develop an intermodal department from the ground up.
- Strong operational, leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Preferably located in or within practical commuting distance of Beylikdüzü / the European side of Istanbul.
